Honoring Scars- PTSD Awareness Month Post
What an interesting gift it is to carry scars.
June is PTSD Awareness Month. This is such a complex and unique experience, tragically human yet so stigmatized.
Questions like " Isn't PTSD only for veterans?" Or even "why can't you just move on?" is filled with pain, judgment, and bias. And yet, what is also so wildly confounding is that we are a world that so rarely truly understands trauma.
Let's be clear: there is no way I can truly explore PTSD fully in a social media post. However, I can honor those who live with it.
We are warriors living each day facing the behemoths of lackluster care, constant judgment, and a truly foundational lack of understanding. But, in that is part of my point, we ARE warriors carrying on bravely, and adapting to an unforgiving world. And in that their perseverance.
So often we are also the healers, the heroes, the teachers, and the community members fighting for change, for peace, and for light. So no matter the hordes of darkness before us, we must carry on.
As none of us would choose our trauma, and yes, the mockery that comes with it. However, we can be those who spread good in this world by defining trauma-informed care and leadership.
So this PTSD Awareness Month, may we walk forward in love, support, and empathy for our community and our future. And ultimately, may we be warriors of kindness, working to bring light to a dim world. #empathydrivencare #mindfulleadership #compassioninleadership #empathydrivenstorytelling #communitystories
