Wonders in Storytelling- Developmental Disability Awareness Month

We are Celebrating Developmental Disability Awareness Month through Stories!!

Stories have the incredible, meaningful, and purposeful ability to build our confidence, expand our knowledge, and establish our autonomy, among many other things! As I work with this community, I continue to learn that those among us have both tremendous talents in Storytelling and in claiming ownership of their pride.

While my primary emphasis is on Dungeons & Dragons and creative play, I witness these talents every day. Our community helps to build cosmos, expand our understanding of magic and science, and has helped so many feel safe in our sensory-friendly spaces. It is always a gift to observe these fantastical worlds being built and to see the joy shared in doing so.

In seeing this joy, I witness wonders, healing, and the foundations of community and connection that will last decades. And in those foundations is also the spark and brilliance our community is so known for. Whether it is simple gameplay or more profound experiences, like honoring a voice, I would not trade these moments for anything.

So this month, I wish all the wonders I have seen, and perhaps kinder days that honor all lived subject matter experts.
